Michael, for
instance, is true to himself through his freedom and sense of
beauty. He believes the creative energy cannot be bound by rules
so he consciously releases everything that would constrain him, freeing
his mind from preconceptions and even other works, to abandon himself
to his inner vision. He paints with passion and vigour, using rich
unsaturated colour and an unlaboured brush stroke. Due to his
high concentrated energy, his work is often finished quickly and
sometimes even large canvases can be completed in a day. His
sculpture these days, has taken an emphasis on beauty, delighting in
flowing forms and tactile surfaces. He still loves the Yin and yang, so
each work embodies a sense of opposites, yet all is harmoniously
connected.
Kevan's path to
greatness is through his attention to detail. He focuses on
contrast; light and shade, old and new, soft and hard. He is an
excellent technician and has enormous patience with detail, waiting for
the right light, turning something brutal into a thing of great beauty.
His eye captures patterns and abstract shapes from life and manmade
elements, delighting in the extraordinary compositions they become in
print. Kevan is curious about all information so is constantly
educating himself on all manner of interests and when it comes to his
photography he is right out there, on the forefront of digital
technology. He uses excellence with his tools and knowledge, to
create the delicate balance in photography of reality and art.
For me, Shona, my
passion for greatness flows through the essence, which I feel is
beautiful. A lot of my work is a bit symbolic exploring the
womanhood image of ancient cultures to express the abundance and cycles
of life, or the guardian figures that protect us, the warrior who is
full of the passion and energy for life, or the journey of life and its
many passages, evolving in my way, through the horse and rider
series. I sculpt as my preferred medium because I love the single
message and I love form. It's seduction lies in its presence in a
space, its touchability. Because I believe in the achievement of
excellence in the whole work, I choose to put my work in the care of
great foundries so that all I concentrate on is my art.
